While men still hold positions of power and influence, women have made great strides in the workplace especially in the developed world.
Women are adapting to the changing economic situations and taking more jobs than in the past, but the young generation face challenges to be gainfully employed in an ever changing workplace. Hanna Rosin’s “The End of Men” emphasizes that women are now marketable in the workplace and gaining power and influence despite facing discrimination and inequality,
Lev Grossman‘s “Grow Up? Not So Fast” highlights that ‘twixters’ are stuck between childhood and adulthood and there have been unable to adapt to adapt to the new economic realities. A higher proportion of women are in the labor force and acquiring college/ university education when compared to the past. There is recognition that access to better opportunities will improve the economic wellbeing of the young and enhance transition to adulthood.
There are many changes in the society that have allowed more people but young men still are lagging behind their female. “Twixters expect a lot more from a job than a paycheck. Maybe it's a reaction to the greed-is-good 1980s or to the whatever-is-whatever apathy of the early 1990s” (Grossman 161). The author highlights that the market place has changed n a way that many find it difficult to find gainful employment compared to the previous generation. Rosin (304) notes, that “Man has been the dominant sex since, well, the dawn of mankind”. In the modern world the gender gap is narrower than it has ever been, mainly because of the cultural and economic reasons. Industrialization and changes in the society have affected the kind of jobs available that there is difficulty transitioning to well paying jobs.
