Future of Driverless Cars
The driverless cars are designed to be safe without requiring drivers regardless of the traffic, road as well as weather conditions (Lohmann 1). The integration of innovative technology for both software and hardware aspects has benefited the driverless technology market players. However, there are challenges with safety as the autonomous vehicles may encounter problems on the road they are not designed to achieve. Additionally, in the case of accidents, it is less clear whether vehicle owners or car manufactures are responsible. As such, when civil liabilities arise there are insurance liability concerns on who should bear the burden of the liabilities (Lohmann 2). The driverless car concept has been popularized in the mainstream in the last few years, but the cyber security and privacy regulations are inadequate. Since driverless cars use sophisticated technology this presents cyber security risks because the hackers can gain unauthorized access to the technology system. This extends to the ability of hackers to control cars and this is a privacy concern where third parties can gain unauthorized personal information.
There is a risk of job losses mainly affecting taxi drivers including those self-employed, the autonomous vehicles are designed to self drive and have the ability to detect obstacles like potholes. This eliminates accidents caused by human errors and bad judgment, and self- driving cars are safe. Manufacturers have had to improve the automotive designs to integrate software and hardware. Programmers and designers increasing work together than before to manufacturers safe and efficient self-driving cars and improve automotive designs (Lee 31).
