Assg. 5 asks you to analyze a Brief but Spectacular topic of your choosing. It's a free-lance analysis in that your goal is to impress me by your application of course contents ranging from structural & cultural concerns to self-fulfilling prophecy effects and the social construction of reality. As we look at various sources and types of social change, a common recognition is that many changes arise from social problems and/or attempts to solve such problems. The PBS Newshour includes a series of talks, which resemble TED Talks in some ways. Here are a couple of samples of such talks:

Of course the two sample talks above are off limits for this assignment, but you will find quite a large variety of topics and speakers. You need not limit yourself to searching for social problems, just let your curiosity be your guide.

For many years, people have thought that opioid addicts chose to abuse substances and that they should be left alone. Individuals never understand that addiction is an illness like any other disease and which is caused by brain disorders. The “Brief But Spectacular” by PBS Newshour of my choice focuses on how to eradicate the problem of opioid addiction, which has caused the deaths of many Americans in the past.
Approximately 130 Americans die every day from opioid overdoses. In particular, treating addiction has been one of the most significant problems in the United States of America (USA).
