Assg. 5 asks you to analyze a Brief but Spectacular topic of your choosing. It's a free-lance analysis in that your goal is to impress me by your application of course contents ranging from structural & cultural concerns to self-fulfilling prophecy effects and the social construction of reality. All course contents to this point are fair game. Pls resist the temptation to exceed a page in length, i.e., more is not better.

Brief but Spectacular

As we look at various sources and types of social change, a common recognition is that many changes arise from social problems and/or attempts to solve such problems. The PBS Newshour includes a series of talks, which resemble TED Talks in some ways. Here are a couple of samples of such talks:

When you have a break in your schedule during the next few days, please take the opportunity to look for a talk that you find sociologically relevant (more details on that will be forthcoming, but for now look for a talk that catches your interest by searching:

Of course the two sample talks above are off limits for this assignment, but you will find quite a large variety of topics and speakers. You need not limit yourself to searching for social problems, just let your curiosity be your guide.
