Political science is a significant unit that focuses on the practice and theory of politics and government at state, national, local and international levels. It also involves studying relations, institutions and practices that represent people’s public life and inquiry models that uphold citizenship. Comparative politics is a particularly important political science branch that deals with different goals and approaches, including comparing political systems to better understand why different societies have varying political systems. This paper seeks to assess various political models and theories, including modern and classical liberalism, fascism of Hitler and Mussolini and social democrats and Marxist-Leninists.
The issue of differences and similarities between classical liberalism and modern liberalism is one of the most debated in the field of political science. Classical liberalism was the Founding Father’s political beliefs. Political leaders who championed for the abolition of slavery during the 19th century were classical liberals (Peters, Michael & James 26). Classical liberalists believed that liberalism was all about liberty. In 1176, most people believed that freedom could only be given by the government. However, Philosophers Jefferson and developed a new argument indicating that citizens have rights without the government’s involvement and that it was human nature. Modern liberals believe that each citizen has the right to air their grievances without fear of condemnation from the government. They believe in the total right of publishing any form of information, but reject the idea of freedom of selling one’s services in the labour market.
Fascism is a dictatorial political movement developed during the early 1900’s as a way of reacting to the social and political changes cause by the first World Way and the spread of communism and socialism (Ljunggren & Jens 34). The political movement’s ideologies differed from one country to another; and from different leaders. Hitler from Germany and Italy’s Mussolini are some of the most popular Fascist leaders. They shared many similarities in their fascist rule. The two rulers used militaristic hierarchies, radical nationalism, contempt for individual rights and violence against citizens. One of the most relevant differences between the two leaders was differences in religion and culture. Hitler had not set a uniform accord on religion while Mussolini pushed for uniformity of all citizens as Catholic Christians. The use of violence and displaying of military power are some of the most common totalitarian ideologies and operative ideals used by Mussolini and Hitler.
One of the most outstanding differences between Marxists-Leninists and social democrats in their application of socialist ideology is the ideas on the role of the state.
