In an article titled Understanding African Poverty Over the Longue Durée: A Review of Africa’s Development in Historical Perspective, Margaret McMillan can be found saying that poverty has a long history in Africa but the most influential and conventional period is a short one. Most of the poverty-related problems were caused in the 1980s. There is no connection between the historical and theoretical underpinnings of how scholars and academics have understood and defined poverty in Africa. Also, there is insufficient information on how poverty in Africa has been quantified in practice.
