Organizational behavior is the study of how people interact within the workplace amongst themselves and also with the structures of the organization. This course, therefore, to me, has been very informative and insightful. Getting to know how processes in organizations work and what really makes employees tick in the workplace has excited me beyond measure. The depth in the course was unquestionable as it covered a lot of ground. It touched on communication in the organization, motivation, leadership, group and team dynamics, power and conflict management, understanding individuals and organization, and management. In the next paragraphs, I will dissect the course topic by topic giving brief insights and learnings.
That communication had to be taught in two sessions underlined its importance in the context of organizational behavior. Through clear communication, the organization is bound to perform better since each and every person is well aware of their role within the organization. Learning of the different platforms that organizations use to communicate, such as meetings, reports, and to some extent, social media, was very important for me. One key takeaway and a new thing that I got from this session were the approaches to communication within the organization, especially the BLUF approach.
