The company I have chosen for this project is PepsiCo, and the focus will be on how they recruit employees and what their ethical and legal practices are. For many years, PepsiCo, an American snack food and beverage corporation, has manufactured, marketed and distributed quality products. It came into being in 1965 after the merger of Frito-Lay Inc. and Pepsi-Cola Company. Today, the company has its production units and sales points all over the world. When it comes to talking about how recruitment is done at this multinational brand, we have observed that they pay utmost attention to the qualifications, skills, and experience of candidates. It looks like they are aware of the fact that the right selection of employees is the key to success in the business world.
Just like the workers, the human resource department has to be effective in performing its duties. Without it, the business may never be successful, and the company will never be able to stand out from the crowd. One of the core responsibilities of the human resource department is to find hardworking, dedicated and the best employees, and for this, they should opt for the most transparent selection or hiring method. While interviewing and choosing the candidates, they may come across some legal and ethical issues, but if they bring the employees into confidence and urge them to stay in their limits, all of the issues can easily be resolved. The hiring-and-firing process has to be transparent.
Their vision statement is “delivering top-tier financial performance by integrating sustainability into the business strategy, leaving a good impression on the environment and the society.” The head of the human resource department is Mr. Austin who is known for his hard work, dedication and the pleasant personality. His office is located in a posh area of New York. Having an initial discussion with him was good. At that time, Mr. Austin provided us with his job description: helping PepsiCo to increase its sales by employing the right kind of candidates. My group was dedicated to interviewing him after his office hours, and he invited us to his home on the weekend. Mr. Austin told us that he has been serving the food and beverage company for nearly twenty years, and is responsible for interviewing candidates and hiring or firing the people based on their performance. He holds a degree in business administration, and before starting work with PepsiCo, Mr. Austin had been working for McDonald’s.
