Activists, the media, and governments have historically held organizations accountable for the social consequences of their activities. Organizations are continually ranked based on their corporate social responsibility (CSR) (Porter and Kramer 78). Despite the proven benefits of these activities, CSR is currently a business ethics issue that is facing opposition from activists, lobby groups, the media, and regulatory agencies. Notably, John Deere is tremendously dedicated to giving back to the community through various initiatives. As one of the leading manufacturers of tractors and farming equipment in the world, John Deere strives to give back to American farmers who use their machinery.
As part of the organization’s CSR, Deere helps farmers repair farming equipment and tractor machinery (Almond, Para 1).
