Sampling Theory
Sampling theory is a statistical analysis technique that involves studying the relationships between populations and samples drawn from them. A population is the aggregate of all the items with similar traits because the sampling theory only applies to random samples (Arnab, 2017). This means that populations are whole groups of things from which knowledge is sought and can be finite or infinite. Peregrine (2018) argues that sampling theory has one objective of creating "a subset of a population in which all cases in the subset have an equal probability of being selected from the population" (p. 1). Four sampling methods exist, including systemic random sampling, simple random sampling, cluster sampling, and stratified sampling, all of which work towards achieving this objective.
