Module 1 Discussion- What Are Your Thoughts On Literature?
Although this is not an Intro to Literature course I would like for you to think about the following:
What is Literature? How do we define literature? What is the role that language plays in literature? What are some characteristics of Literature? What is the ultimate purpose of literature?
Your response should be well developed (i.e. aim for 250-500 words). If you use outside sources be sure to provide credit. Do not rely on the internet to think for you, aim to develop your own ideas and then seek out credible resources for additional assistance to help develop your ideas (this is different from finding a source and using the content as the foundation for your idea). You are not required to respond to your classmates, however dialogue is highly encouraged.

Definition of Literature
The definition of literature has evolved over the decades. Literature is a purely oral or written body of works which consist of a particular use of language. Writing covers both the actions of poetry and prose. Examples of Literature include poetry, novels, short stories, drama, essays, and novellas. Many scholars classify it according to a variety of systems such as historical period, genre, national origin, language, and the theme.
Language plays a vital role in literature. Most literature is written through the medium of language. Therefore, language becomes the medium in which the writer expresses his or her feelings, thoughts, and imaginations to the audiences (Bennett and Royle, 2016). Additionally, in poetry, the poet uses expressive dialect to communicate their personal feelings and sentiments to the readers.
