The Street (1933) –Balthus Analysis for Metaphor
The world, according to Balthus, was a metaphor in itself. This famous painter endeavored to showcase paradox in most of his works. It is said that Balthus was the first living artist who entered the Louvre. Balthus mostly used body postures to capture the essence of his work. There is a hypnagogic quality of imagery that features in his paintings that are repeatedly used with a clear motive. A good example was using a figure (both male and female) kneeling with an elongated leg and supported upper body in two different figures in most of his works within ten years.
