Trouble with the Editor- Natalie Goldberg
Goldberg’ uses the ‘tell and show strategy’ and contrast to highlight the need to separate the drafting and editing processes during writing. Goldberg points out her thoughts on the association between editing and creating in while writing, while concluding that writing process is effective when the two aspects are separated. This is supported by the thought that editing can often limit creativity (2). The rationale for showing what on intends to portray is that a writer has more time to describe and capture the relevant information. This paper will focus on Goldberg’s writing strategies to show the suitability of creators over editor in writing by highlighting differences between the two.
Goldberg’s writing strategy is effective since it captures what affects many writers as they seek to get their ideas on paper. By being specific about the challenge to maintaining creativity in the writing process, Goldberg shows that placing too much emphasis on editing is counterproductive. The aim of the writer should then convince the reader by showing how their ideas and facts gel together. Editing is associated with emphasis on scheduling the writing process, and while this is necessary to communicate with the readers, this need not be a top priority before the writing process is complete.
Any successful writer needs to practice over time to connect with the readers, but they must find connect with their mind. Goldberg supports this view by implying that the creative inner voice often influences the writing process (5).
