Should Selling Plastic Bags be Completely Banned in Shops?
The selling of plastic bags should be banned completely. Although most people across the world might face significant challenges adapting to the ban and changing to use other products, they should consider the negative impacts induced by the bags to their surroundings. For instance, the production and disposal processes of the bags release harmful chemicals to the environment, raising the risk of global warming. The consequences of using and selling plastic bags are severe than implementing a ban and getting effective alternatives. Thus, plastics bags should completely be banned in the world.
The population using plastic bags are at a high risk of health hazards. The major ways of disposing of the used polythene bags induce the risk of acquiring various health issues such as malaria and respiratory diseases. According to Joseph et al., most people dispose off the used plastic bags carelessly on the ground, creating a strategic dumpsite that eventually develops to permanence after a while of continuous disposal. Also, competing companies in the industry have already chipped in to provide alternative products in replacement of the plastic bags. According to Elmarasi, people get immediate options for errands such as grocery shopping, and they do not have to resist change since there is already a way out. Elmarasi argues that most of the innovative bags to replace the use of plastic ones are even durable and could serve a person for many purposes over a long period. Thus, the banning of plastic bags does not impact people negatively but benefits them, and they should adopt the rule and support them. Besides, the action is reshaping the world into a better place, and most countries have already adapted to the changes.
