Macbeth
The story of Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare about a man who struggles to give support to the kingdom because of King Duncan’s incompetency. The thesis statement is: Power corrupts Macbeth by changing his personality, making him kill people and his mind not being clear. There are 5 chosen quotes that support the statement.
The 1st quote is: “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter! […] Thou shalt get kings, thou thou be none so all hail, Macbeth and Banquo!” (1,iii, 53, 70-71)
Macbeth is influenced by the witches to think about becoming king, it starts with being greedy of power. By speaking about power and wanting more of it, the thesis statement is supported because originally, Macbeth did not aspire to become king just to acquire power. The thought hardly crosses his mind, but meeting the witches made everything change because is now blinded by the thought of becoming king. In addition, even his personality is at stake because he is willing to change his personality, principles and views just to achieve being king.
The most important point of the act is when the witches start to say bad thoughts to Macbeth, which only give affirmation to what is already in his mind. The impact is greater because he received a validation from the witches even if they do not know it. Furthermore, Macbeth started to put more thought into it because it is not only him who entertains the idea. Macbeth’s vulnerability can be seen by the witches, and they know the perfect time to approach and speak to him. According to BBC UK website, Macbeth is filled with glory because of the recent battle. They use Macbeth’s weakness to their advantage and slowly manipulates him into being hungry for power.
The 2nd quote is: “Thou art too like the spirit of Banquo. Down! Thy crown does sear mine eyeballs. And thy hair, thou other gold-bound brow, is like the first. A third is like the former. Filthy hags! Why do you show me this? — a fourth? Start, eyes! What, will the line stretch out to th' crack of doom? Another yet? A seventh? I'll see no more and yet the eighth appears who bears a glass Which shows me many more, and some I see That two-fold balls and treble scepters carry.Horrible sight! Now I see 'tis true,For the blood-boltered Banquo smiles upon me, And points at them for his.”(4, i, 127-139)
The witches fail to impress Macbeth with what they are showing him, he has a stronger desire for power now. The lust for power and control is at a higher level now because he is now a lot more captivated and automatically thinks that King Duncan is going to recognize him as the successor of the throne. He becomes mortified when he learns that Malcolm is the heir, the Prince of Cumberland. Macbeth has irrational desires that deep and dark, which are connected to his ambition.
The witches planted a seed and it seems that hypnosis was done to Macbeth or weaken his ability to think about his morality. Macbeth considers their prophecies to be a promise. Minter says “that later on he writes to Lady Macbeth about the promise of greatness made to him.” At this point, Macbet...
