Barack Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” portrays obstacles that have been widening the ridge between whites and African Americans in the United States of America (USA). The author makes it clear that since the late 1950s to early 1960s, when discrimination and segregation against black people were the order of the day, some people have not recovered even today. That might be the reason why racism is still a significant problem in the USA. Obama uses pathos, logos, and ethos to convince his readers that a change can only occur if all Americans, regardless of their races, unite to build the nation.
Almost everyone can trust the writer’s views about African Americans since he comes from a minority group, which depicts the use of ethos. Moreover, he was the first African American president of the USA, and being in that top leadership position is a good example for minority groups to realize that they can succeed if they keep their anger aside. The author is benevolent, informed, persuasive, and credible. For instance, he uses Reverend Wright and other people of his generation to make his point clear. Although those individuals encountered discrimination as they tried to achieve their American dream, some of them succeeded. However, those who languish in poverty are stuck in their memories of humiliation...
