In a town hall meeting on the issue of welfare I argued that there should be reforms and changes with efforts to reduce the size of social programs. The reason for this is that the incentives are bad for everyone involved, even as there are cases of disability and inability to work, efforts to preserve the social programs have not done much to improve the lives of the people. The recent cases of health reform have highlighted the need to look more keenly on who pays for what and how they benefit. In the meeting I emphasized the need to address the use the social program to avoid abusing the system.
I knew someone who contemplated welfare fraud and this prompted me to think of how many more people tried this. The truth of the matter is that the welfare system has grown and overburdened the US, and the system has not lived up to its aim. I urge you to look more keenly into the impact of welfare and then make a decision on your own on the need to reform the welfare.
