Project Overview
You will be required to construct a 900 – 1,200 word persuasive essay. Your primary goal will be to convince your reader to award you an extremely competitive academic scholarship that leads to an internship in your field. This assignment offers you an opportunity to discuss your talents, successes, ambitions, and challenges that have helped your academic and professional growth. Working from Unit 3, you will want to establish good character as well as employ logos and pathos in the body of your essay. The introduction should be striking and memorable, leading to a clear thesis statement listing the reasons you should be awarded the scholarship. Keep in mind the artistry of language, incorporating 10 different active verbs to enhance your prose. Highlight these verbs as well as the thesis statement.
As you consider essay construction, think about how you will treat each of the three rhetorical appeals, one per body paragraph:
Ethos: Provide examples of your work ethic: What kinds of awards, scholarships, roles at current or previous jobs, and/or philanthropic work have you done?
Logos: Provide examples of your reasoning regarding your projected goals and outcomes if you are awarded this scholarship.
Pathos: How are you creating a personal, yet professional tone with your audience? The audience (decision-maker) should come away with a sense that you are the right fit for the scholarship. What do you have to offer? And who are you as a deserving artist? This paragraph will work to strike the heart of the audience without sacrificing your integrity. Remember, this is a merit-based scholarship.

Procedure
Building upon the unit content, it is time to write a persuasive essay. As you draft the full paper, keep the following in mind:
Your rhetorical goal should ultimately be to persuade your reader to award you a scholarship that leads to an internship in your field. This goal should be set forth in the claim/thesis statement. Highlight the thesis statement.
Structurally, this paper will offer a solid thesis that is situated as the last sentence of the introduction. The thesis should clearly indicate the main criteria (the ethos, logos, and pathos) to be discussed in the essay.
You will need to create clear topic sentences (as discussed in Unit 1) that reflect the thesis and give the scope of their respective paragraphs.
Create an engaging introduction and conclusion.
Employ 10 different active verbs. Be sure to highlight these verbs.
Pay attention to detail—for example, how descriptive will you be when you address your qualifications?
If you use images, make sure they serve a purpose in your essay. To cite them in-text, refer to them as, for example, (see Image 1). Then, place the phrase (see Image 1) at the end of the sentence.
Place all images at the end of the document. Under each one, create a title: Image 1: Title.
Your essay should be between 900 and 1,200 words.
Make sure that your essay is written in MLA format.
Post your final work to the Unit 4: Rhetoric, Writing, and Creativity discussion forum by Day 4 of Unit 4. Then, review your classmates’ posts, and respond to at least two of them by 11:59 p.m. U.S. EST/EDT on Day 7 of this unit.
Review the feedback from your peers and instructor, and make any necessary changes.

It would be a big lie if I said that I knew what I wanted to do growing up because I was not always fat. Looking at the family photo albums, I realize that my childhood was filled with a lot of activity and sports. I was scarily skinny because I would play more and eat less, according to my Mama. The loss of my dad, who was my mentor, in mysterious circumstances, hit me hard and would result in the depression years later. Emotional eating kicked in, technology took hold of me, and the rest is history. My educational achievements today has made me realize that obesity was not a limitation but a pathway to success. I have known defeat, suffering, struggle, loss, and still found my way out of the depths. Despite all this, I graduated top of my class with a bachelor's degree in nutrition and am now a licensed nutritionist. I believe i deserve this Master's scholarship opportunity because I am strong, opportunistic, and determined to solve the obesity pandemic in our society.
My role and contribution in the society are evident with the scholarships, internships, philanthropic, and awards under my belt. I discovered dietary and nutrition in my second year of high school, and it changed my life and my outlook. It is when my passion for food science developed, and I have never looked back. My experience with stereotyping, ostracism, discouragement, and even violence made me initiate a successful obesity club at my former college. It was to help my fellow overweight peer to cope with the stigma that came with being a few pounds heavier than usual. I am a proud alumnus because my successors continue to do even better than we did then. Named the philanthropist of the year for three consecutive years in my college, getting an internship was not hard for me. Still, I knew I had to work harder than my fellow peers did because, at first sight, I was seen as lazy. I do not remember how many summer holydays I have to forgo to explore scholarship and internship opportunities because I was secluded from social events. What is interesting is that classmates planned camping gateways in secret because they feared I would finish the food. My greatest dream remains to intern at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and contributing to their Plan of Action for the Prevention of Obesity in Children and Adolescents. I am glad, though, because my bad experiences were ladders to my success.
If awarded this scholarship, my ultimate goal is to influence immensely the fight against the obesity pandemic in America. A Master's degree will empower me with research opportunities to commence intervention and preventive measures for children and young adults. It will also provide me with an in-depth understanding of eating disorders and how they come about. The knowledge of disordered eating will help in the treatment of diseases. Finally, the study of biostatics is vital for any nutritionist. Statistics are the key to the door of understanding obesity and its prevalence.
