Outline for Rhetoric Analysis on “Mickey Mouse Monopoly”
* Introduction
* Background
* Understanding Disney as a monopoly is why many people do not consider Disney a monopoly until they conduct some conducive research regarding the company’s influence.
* Disney should be further understood as an entity that can foster, tarnish, and reshape cultures based on the content it portrays.
* Author’s Purpose: An intensive understanding of Disney’s impact on society, primarily through children, will affect entire generations.
* Thesis Statement: Disney has influenced upcoming generations with its influence taking hold and altering society according to how it sees fit, a factor that should be heavily discussed.
* Body Paragraphs
* Summary
* Beginning: Giving an insight to the reader regarding Disney’s reach in society and how it continues to impact the media industry by portraying innocence.
* Middle part: Using various examples that show how Disney’s influence is vast such as its dominance in the media industry. Consequentially, the inaccurate, misogynistic, and racist portrayal emphasized in Disney continues to sell its image of innocence.
* Ending: Creating an argument regarding how Disney inadvertently brainwashes society as it commercializes its products. This commercialization thereby eliminates Disney’s innocence and makes it a force to reckon with.
* Appeals to Ethos
Society often runs to judge an entity because it has gotten too big. However, in the case of Mickey Mouse, the truth is that it has indeed become a monopoly in the industry and at the same time taken up an image of innocence to shield itself.
* Appeals to Pathos
As it stands, Disney can only be petitioned by the public to revert it’s false take on history and eliminate the misogynistic and stereotypical factors found in its movies. If not, a newer generation will continue to be misled.
