What Does Matthew Bulger Say About What Is an American And Do You Agree?
In the article, Bugler tries to address the perception that being an American requires adherence to certain qualities. Some of the qualities he debunks include religious affiliation, immigrant status, ability to speak English, among others. When we consider the nation's history, we can see that all its members were first immigrants in a land they never possessed (Bugler 4-5).
Patriotism can never be equated with someone's belief, ability to speak English, or immigrant status.
