Three authors are used to develop critique in this essay. The first author has been extensively used in this critical analysis, although he is anonymous; therefore there is no much information that can be attributed to him. The second author is Sherry Ginn; she earned her MA in 1984 and her PhD in 1988 in general experimental psychology from the University of South Carolina. She also studied women’s studies program. She taught at Wingate University from 1999 to 2006, and currently, Dr. Ginn teaches at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She published several articles based in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. The third author is Donald. F. Glut; he attended University of South California and earned B.A Degree in cinema. He developed his acting career thus became an active speaker in national television program. He majorly focused his professional life as a freelance writer in which he authored several television scripts and motion pictures. He also wrote several articles, nonfictional books, novels, songs, and short stories. Themes of this novel (Frankenstein) revolve around cultural and social aspects taking in the society during Mary’s lifetime. The characters in the story are struggling against societal control. Science and nature are strong opposing forces during this period, which are vital aspects shaping the story. This paper examines the how characters are struggling against societal control and justifies that such misery in the novel is implicated in Mary’s life.
While the anonymous author presents the source of social strife between Frankenstein and the creature, Dr. Ginn attempts to give a new perspective how the misery that occurs in the novel is implicated in Mary’s life.
The thesis statement gives true information because the main characters of this story are in struggle against societal control. Moreover, looking keenly to the predicaments taking place in the story, it is justifiable that such miseries have implications in the life of the author of this novel (Ginn1).
In the first critique, anonymous author shows Frankenstein and the creature as struggling against societal control. According to anonymous author, the story starts at the end with Walton and his crews in a voyage to discovery. They are surprised to see a human being of barbaric character who moves the vessel to a distant place. The following day, Walton and his team meet a person exhausted with privation and fatigue. This is the person identified as Frankenstein (the protagonist of the story) who at that moment has been ruined by the dissolving ice (anonymous author). After some time, Frankenstein narrates a supernatural tale to Walton.
In his account, Frankenstein says that during his youth life, he was influenced to study chemistry and consequently he was obsessed with conducting experiments. In his pursuit, Frankenstein decided to create an inanimate matter to have life but later abandoned the creature. It was in this incident that Frankenstein started a life of endless misery (Glut 23).
