How We Listen to Music
A memorable aspect of the reading “How Do We Listen to Music in 2018?” is that hip hop is one of the most popular music genres among young audiences aged between 25-35 years. Even though it has been a music genre that has often been controversial in the past due to the content or language, it has gained full acceptance and become an essential characteristic of mainstream society. Most people listen to hip hop in comparison to other genres like pop, alternative, country, and rock (Marché). It is not only popular among young audiences, but older people also like it. Young people also tend to listen to hip hop late at night, and they often do it between 11 PM and 5 AM (Marché). The reading reveals the hip hop has captured a broad audience, especially the young who have a close association with it, and they enjoy listening to it.
I agree with the reading’s perspective that if people pay for streaming services, then they are more likely to search and try new genres. This is true since the number of streaming services has been on the increase, and they also allow users to choose from an extensive collection of customized songs, some of which are also user-generated in some cases. This makes it easier to find new and unique music (Marché). Many musicians and artists also release their songs on the streaming services, which means that users are exposed to a diverse array of songs and genres which they can try out. For instance, the reading suggests that 74% of users who subscribe to music streaming services are more willing to try new music rather than not (58%) (Marché).
