What Kinds Of Activities Take Place In Class Or Outside Of Class?

Name Instructor Course Date Directions Many times, students would have difficulties with certain subjects no matter how they study. Any attempt they make at revising never yields fruits. Cases of students not enjoying the lessons they take are common. This in turn affects their experiences and performances. Different teaching methods are adopted by different teachers. Several authors have advanced arguments for and against certain models of teaching and they have been right in doing so. The choice of a teaching method and model can greatly impact the experiences that students have and their performances. Step One I have always been fascinated with art. To say I cannot get enough of art classes would be an understatement. Recently, I undertook a class in art. When I started taking the class, the whole idea was to experiment, but I must admit that I ended up having a really good time. The art classes were very competitive and it was almost as if everyone there was good. I learnt that the other students were attending the classes because of their love for art. The art lessons were based on a lot of discussions and practicing at individual levels. The students embraced the practice of group work and comparing and sharing different aspects of their drawings. The art tutor was a likable person who valued having a good relationship with the students. It is not always that you find a teacher that treats students with so much love and attention. Perhaps it is due to the discrimination that the teachers undergo. As Barry (2) notes: “We all know that a good education saves lives, but the people of this country still told that cutting the budget for public schools is necessary, that poor salaries for teachers are all we can manage and that art, music and all creative activities must be the first to go when times are lean.” Despite all this negativity, the teacher acted as if he was the best paid. He was attentive to details and did his best to ensure that every student understood what they were doing. The individual attention he paid to the students made them feel like he was not just their teacher, but he was one of them, learning with them. The art class was very interesting. The teacher took us through several activities that involved mixing colors to ensure that we had the right proportion. He empathized that it is important to get the quantities right so that we would make attractive drawings. We also tried copying some of the masterpiece drawings to gauge and compare our understanding of true art. During the classes, we learnt how to use multiple colors to create a great look and feel for our drawings. Besides, we visited several art galleries to see some of the most renowned paintings from the past artists and the current ones. Step Two Several authors have advanced ideas aimed at empowering education. Paolo Freire was critical of the banking system and proposed problem solving as an alternative model to be used in classes. According to Freire (n.p): “Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the poles of the contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students.” I would say that the art class I attended adopted the “problem-solving model”.
