Airport Travel Experience
Introduction
Airport experience can be a fascinating experience especially for first time air travellers, but to frequent travellers, it can be a gruesome experience. When you first enter JFK airport, you will be welcomed by sounds of roaring plane engines as they zoom on takeoff runways. While you still marvel at the zooming Boeing engines, you will almost be suddenly deafened by the vicious rumbling of an Airbus plane engine as it gradually descends from the skies above. The scenic beauty at the JFK is a specter to behold. First, the massive control towers and the imposing flood lights, then the runway lights. Everything about the airport is indeed spectacular for first time air travellers. However, behind this scenic beauty, there lies a problem that every air traveller has to contend with.
My first encounter at the JFK airport on 23rdDecember 2001 was indeed an indelible moment that doesn’t seem to ever fade away. JFK airport is situated in the greater borough region, in Queen’s area New York. The Airport is situated just about 12 miles from Lower Manhattan.In fact for frequent air travellers, airport experience can be a distressful experience. This essay reviews modern day realities of air travel by focusing on airport security screening and its subsequent effect on air travel experience.
Even though air travel remains the fastest and safest means of travel, the vulnerability of the aircraft to different risks and threats has redefined the air travel experience. Gone are the days when travellers would go through simple security checks. Due to high risks and threats posed by terrorism, airports have instituted stringent security screeningthat has become not only hectic for travellers, but a gross violation of individual privacy. Indeed, the times have changed, and so is air travel. Today, the regular and rigorous airport security screening is what pops up on my mind every time I think about air travel. The luggage screening, whole-body scanning, identification scrutiny and of course, the long delays. Still, there are risks of missing a flight if something isn’t right in your travel documents.
The procedures used to conduct security checks by NTSA officials that include patting; baggage x-ray checks and the use of metal detectors are just but a few security screening procedures at JFK and other US airports. Besides, other rigorous security checks such as name scrutiny and watch-listing will most certainly keep you stuck longer in the queue.As if tha...
