Objectives
For this assignment you will write a 750+ word visual analysis essay. This essay will analyze the visual rhetoric strategies within a successful print or video ad (or ad campaign) and explain their rhetorical effect and how they may have helped the ad successfully influence its audience. Your analysis should include elements such as compositional features, mirror and window effect, subject matter, use of rhetorical appeals, media landscape, target audience, branding, and angle of vision. More information about this essay can be found in the Allyn & Bacon textbook in pages 135-137. However, our essay will be focus on one visual text rather than two. You may select any successful ad or advertising campaign of your choice, but you must obtain approval from the instructor for your source.
Rhetorical Context
· Purpose: Analyze the visual rhetoric strategies in a successful ad and explain why those strategies were successful
· Audience: Well-educated members of the university community. This audience can be considered formal.
· Genre: Visual analysis is a type of closed form prose with an introduction, description of the visual text, analysis and explanation of the visual rhetoric strategies, and conclusion.
Requirements

For any successful brand, business is not only about selling, but rather begins by changing consumer`s minds through making the product more appealing to them and their lifestyles. Advertisement is one such way through which companies change the consumers’ minds. Through advertisements, there is a change in perceptions about that particular brand which subsequently leads to emotional investment in it and eventually leading to brand loyalty. In doing these advertisements, various strategies are employed by the companies with the aim of helping to change the consumers` minds and perceptions. These strategies revolve around the object coloring, shape and placement in the ad. These strategies will be explored in light of the Honda Racing ad campaign that has proven to be successful to this end.
This advertisement is intended to create a link between Honda`s program on high performance Motorsports and the performance-oriented production vehicles.This is important because it does not focus on the features of a typical highway car but on the features associated with a good racecar. In the ad, the color red is extensively used with a little mix of white. Usually, the color red is used to indicate excitement. In this case, therefore, the viewers are made to feel that excitement that is especially obvious during car races. The use of the unique style whereby a vehicle morphs into another has the potential of making the advertisement stick in the minds of the consumers. This style also eliminates the monotony associated with repetitive ads and thus the viewers can have both fun and familiarity while visiting the site. In terms of composition, the image of the car is strategically arranged to take up the largest space in the ad while all the other objects have either been placed in different locations or even omitted. Symbolism is also an important aspect in this case and it is one of the strategies used to emphasize the meaning of the advert. For example, the open and wide road in the image symbolizes freedom and thus relates well with the issue of car racing.
