Introduction
History has clearly given an illusion of how men have in the past engaged in treacherous activities directed towards controlling and defining women through the lenses of discrimination. In this case, it would be determined that the cult of true womanhood is a conceived ideology that men developed before the twentieth century. This ideology therefore deemed it fit to cage women in homes and victimize them within the society. In this case, women were driven to take care of their homes and behave in a virtuous and pure manner, a factor that instilled the element of a perfect housewife on this gender.
In this case, this paper therefore seeks to establish the implausible pressures that have been developed by men to control women in the society in light of the Yellow Wallpaper and the approaches that these female counterparts employed in conquering the traditional view and definition of a woman and her roles.
Harriet Beecher "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Stowe
In the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin", Harriet Beecher, Stowe develops a fictional world that is based on her own observations of slavery in America. In consideration of the true events that were experienced by the slaves, Harriet takes a comparison of this with her developed character that exposes some of the evils and atrocities that exist in a society (Evans, 2012. pp. 498). The author in this case introduces female characters and their reasons for being as the primary care givers. On the other hand, the men in this novel are depicted as the slave holders.
It is essential to establish that the author emphasizes on how women were unjustly treated and how they were not allowed to participate in any political activities. The author brings a sharp contrast on how the public world was reserved for the husbands and men while women were expected to live private lives (Evans, 2012. pp. 499). A woman was therefore considered successful if she had the capacity to take care of her family and adhere to the Christian values. Women were therefore considered to play the role of motherhood.

In this narrative, the author is determined to explore one of the female characters desire to pursue and live a full life within herself. The author gives a depiction of this lady`s devotion to achieve this cause of action, a factor that turns out fictitious to her family and friends and resulted into conflicts with the values that were required of women during her time (Pflueger, 2013. pp. 468). Edna in her mission to find self-fulfillment and independence from the oppressive tenets of the society realized the odds of the society in oppressing the women by requiring them to be married or to sabotage their own needs to their husbands and children.
