Essay Instructions:

For this final assignment, you will be required to research one area of gender studies in more detail. Each student must choose an original topic of research. You will find no less than three sources. Web sources must be academic in nature and may account for no more than two of your sources. General topics listed below.
Suggestions:
The suggested topics are broad. To create a successful research essay, select a possible topic, do some preliminary reading, and then carefully consider how you might narrow and focus your topic.
Bring your proposed and narrowed topic for approval.
The center of your research process is one or two questions you will answer in your essay. To effectively answer this question or questions, you will offer your ideas, observations, and opinions on your topic along with three outside sources for support. These secondary sources are to be from the following categories:
Material from scholarly databases available through the Lone Star College Kingwood Library
Scholarly material found on the world wide web
Read and annotate your three sources and select at least seven direct quotations that support, contradict, or expand your stance and topic. You will use these quotes in your essay.
Then shape your argument (your ideas and quotations from three outside sources) around your central idea and write a first draft of the essay. As you draft your essay, consider what terms you might need to define, what concrete examples you might use, and what facts or statistics support your claim. Although you do not have to address each point that does not support your argument, remember that a good argument tries to understand both sides of the topic. You want to shape your argument to be persuasive (and not offensive) to your readers.
Format:
Introduction: Use a hook to get the reader’s attention. Use this section to briefly introduce your topic. Give enough information to orient the reader. The last sentence of the introduction should be the thesis, which outlines the rest of your essay.
Body paragraphs: Each body paragraph must tie back to the thesis and expand upon it. Use each body paragraph to elaborate upon each source and how it informs, changes, challenges, or reshapes your views about your topic.
Conclusion: The conclusion should reinforce the major claims or interpretations in way that is not a mere summary. The writer should try to indicate the significance of the major claim beyond the scope of the paper but within the parameters of the field. The writer might also present complications the study illustrates or suggest further research for the reader.
Possible topics for research may include, but are not limited to:
How we learn gender
Issues of male privilege
Gender and the body
Gender and family
Homophobia and gender
Male vs female math ability
Gender and low esteem
Male and female attractiveness
You may create your own topic. All topics must be approved.

Gender Studies-Women and Gender
Women around the world are confronted by many discrimination and inequality issues. They have faced violence, unequal treatment in the community. Furthermore, they have been denied opportunities to learn and to lead. Women have fewer opportunities in economic participation compared to men. Many organizations have taken the responsibility of addressing gender issues affecting women and girls around the world. Therefore, there is a need to address the rights of women by giving them opportunities to reach their full potential, which is critical to achieving gender equality. Empowering women will go a long way in meeting international development goals in the world. The purpose of this assignment is to address three key issues that have delayed attainment of gender equality through empowering women
Women are not well represented in political positions or other positions of power. One of the challenges that underline policy battles in the United States is the continued lack of women in positions of power. Patriarchy has taken root to the extent that women are not given equal opportunities in politics. Society has, for decades, held that on matters to do with politics, power, and leadership, women are less experienced than men. Furthermore, patriarchy has made society believe that strong and intelligent women represent a huge problem. Additionally, the media has always been based on the coverage of stories involving women politicians. Dolan, Kathleen states that "As the number of women candidates for office in the U.S. increases each election cycle, scholars are confronted with questions about the impact of their sex on their chances of success. Chief among these questions involves the influence of gender stereotypes on the decisions voters make in elections in which women run against men” (Dolan p. 2). There are many gains from the modern feminist movement around the world. However. Some people still believe that women are less qualified and less worthy of the same educational opportunities afforded to their male counterparts.
Furthermore, there are not enough women in the table to address. Women, when in power, bring a different perspective on issues affecting the world. Some of the areas that need women representation include criminal justice, national security, and climate change. Women have also been denied the chance to fights for their fights. Han, Lori Cox, and Caroline Heldman illustrates the situation of Indian women in the United States. Han, Lori Cox, and Caroline Heldman states that “Gendered violence has the practical consequences of cutting off women’s access to public spaces required to support democracy” (Han & Caroline Heldman p.4) In these areas, there have been few representations of women. In 2018, there were over 100 women who were sown in the U.S 116th congress. This shows that the representation of the women in government is going up, which shows a definite improvement. Additionally, the U.S is ranked 75th out of 195 countries in terms of women representation in government.
The third challenge for women is navigating both career and motherhood paths. Women around the world have always...
