The author of the novel, Disgrace and the article “Out of South Africa” J.M Coetzee explores the tension that exists among the different races in the apartheid regime in South Africa. In the novel Disgrace, the author focuses on the life of the main character David Lurie who is a professor at a Cape Town Technical University. He is involved in various sexual escapades that later destroy his career. In most of the cases, when someone remembers the apartheid regime in South Africa, what usually comes into mind are the injustices that were committed against the Africans but the author Coetzee creates a universal picture to show that the challenges that took place during the time affected the Europeans minority and the Africans. This is illustrated through the way in which the author portrays David Lurie the main character in the novel.
