Schellekens, in his article "A note on the Dutch origins of South African colonial architecture," examines and explains the Dutch origin of South Africa colonial architecture. The author states that Dutch discovered a station while he was traveling to India. He also says that the stations developed into a colony over the past few years and have attracted many settlers from the Netherlands, France, and Germany. He also states that one of the most exciting features of South African Colonial Architecture is that it has attracted a lot of attention from the observers.
I find it very interesting the author has used images to explain the origin of South African Architecture. I believe that it is possible that not all the roofs derived any information or materials directly from the prototypes of Dutch. Some might indeed be from the local development, and people might have introduced others in other places. Understanding the origin and interrelations between these stories can help understand the information pathways that connect the origin of the South African Colonial Architecture.
I also discovered that Schellekens had provided extensive ways better to understand the origin of the South African colonial architecture. The most understandable of these ways is the story of Van der Meulen. The author notes that Van der Meulen separates the South African gables into two parts.
