The United States change of paradigm from an isolationist policy to one of intervention was major. The change emerged during and after the WWII, and this change came with many implications. Nonetheless, the policy change was an indication of progression, and perhaps concern towards adverse global phenomenal. The intention of isolationism was to protect the interests of the United States. However, the world appeared to grow smaller; hence, the USA perceived a threat to their interests due to the forces of fascism and communism. When the WWII emerged, the isolated United States encountered distant challenges. As such, being a superpower saw public opinion support the intervention of the United States to help in terms of aid, or achieve peace.
In the year 1941, 70% of United States citizens supported that the US plays an active role in world affairs. Earlier on, in 1936, 60% of Americans favored the neutrality of America in WWII. What brought about the change? Americans recognized that their countries' future depended on the rest of the world. Apart from this, WWII was a threat to the stability of America; hence, the US had to intervene to ensure it remained stable. While the United States was a major party in the Cold War, the Soviet Union was adamant to start a war. War was probable, but if it happened, nuclear weapons could destroy the two nations.
