Globalization of the War on Drugs
This term means engaging people's life more deeply and intensely by passing knowledge across the borders on the measures of reducing and controlling the drug trafficking and consumption, and compressing the time of their social and economic impacts in the society. The war on drugs entails declaring drugs as a public enemy. According to Aguirre & Salvatore (2001), globalization enhances drug production and drug trafficking. Like any other commodity, drugs are purported to have a significant purpose in the economy.
However, the impacts of the drugs are far much reaching than the benefits. United States has stanch provisions of the drugs related. Similarly, Mexico bold regulations that do not even sympathize even with women. In chapter 10 (page 128), Mexican women face harsh treatment from in the penal system. The victims face a minimum imprisonment of seven years. Legal institutions do not consider whether the mothers got involved in the drug business to feed their children. Out of 445 prisons in Mexico, 230 are dedicated to housing female prisoners. This system seems to have disadvantaged women heavily. With 4-5% of women in prison, many children have no one to care for them (Newman & Jaquier, 2011).
