Trump’s claims on illegal Immigrants
The United States’ President-elect Donald Trump, was quoted saying that he wants to embark on deporting 2 to 3 million undocumented immigrants who are in the country illegally. The illegal immigrants are believed to be drug dealers, gang members and those with other criminal records in the country.
Trump’s assumptions might have some truth, but the fact remains that the president-elect is not sure of the number of those he claims to be illegal immigrants in the country. The first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is the validity of his claims and how he plans to implement his views. According to the department of homeland security, the U.S has approximately 1.9 million illegal immigrants. The less than 2 million estimations are people who are convicted of crimes and are subject to deportation, but Trump estimation seems to be wrong, and it remains unclear where he got the numbers from (Ye Hee Lee 1).
In his campaign, Trump promised to use force to deport all illegal immigrants “removable criminal aliens,” something that seems impossible because there must be a constitutional right to be followed, the right to due process. There is an immigration court which, according to reports it is already congested and over a half a million immigration cases pending scheduled into 2019. Trump’s policy seems confusing because some of the 1.9 million people he speaks about, are lawfully in the country or are in the country on temporary visas. The legal immigrants can be removed if they are convicted of serious crimes that are against the constitution (Ye Hee Lee 1).
The questions remain, does the U.S has 2 to 3 million illegal immigrants? If they are there, which strategy shall Trump employ to get them out of the country? During his campaigns, Trump was more of a racist; he claimed that all immigrants, especially the blacks would be deported. His knowledge was basically from the center for immigration studies, an organization that works to ensure they limit both the legal and illegal immigration. The institution is classified among the American nativist movement that are against immigrants. In fact, the founder of the group John Tanton has been quoted on several occasions supporting racism and has for many years wrote many racist materials. They say that nothing just happens, and if all is right about Trump statements, the link between his source of information and his policies, says something about his beliefs and the picture he has for the American people and the nation (Ye Hee Lee 1).
According to Trump, his policy to deport all illegal migrants is something that must work without any restrictions. However, this might not be true because some of the undocumented immigrants may not be accepted back to their country; this is another challe...
