In the article, Excerpts from Civil Disobedience, Henry Thoreau takes a swipe at the American government. He contends that the government should be a mode through which their will is executed (Thoreau par.1). However, according to him, the American government has been corrupted by a few individuals resulting in undesirable outcomes such as the Mexican war. On the other hand, he reprimands the American population for supporting slavery and the war in Mexico.
Chapter 6 (A Wicked War) of the book by Britta and Russell Crandall explores the aftermath of the Mexican war. For instance, the authors enumerate the casualties the American army suffered (Crandall and Crandall 47). The authors also argue that the war significantly escalated political and social disputes, especially regarding slavery. On a more negative note, Mexico lost almost half of its land to America.
