Ethos, Logos and Pathos
In his article, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – A Great Leader with a Great Vision, Kirk Wilkin uses logos, ethos and pathos to appeal to the readers about how King was a great leader. He is very keen to bring the readers onboard his ideas by appealing to their logic. Using phrases like, ‘we can all agree', Wilkin is trying to create a logical observation in the minds of the readers (Wilkin, Kurt). He also uses pathos by appealing to the readers' emotions, reminding them of the racial segregation at the time of the King's endeavors. Wilkin also uses ethos by referencing quotes and content from other speakers and authors in his article (Wilkin, Kurt).
Sonia Thompson in her article, The Essential Leadership Lesson From Martin Luther King That All Good Leaders Must Learn, is quick to use ethos by using quotes and referencing them. This is crucial for credibility of the content and the author (Thompson, Sonia). She also uses logos in the article where she lists the attributes of empathy (Thompson, Sonia). At the same time she is keen to point out how hard King worked to achieve the dreams for his people in a vivid application of the pathos.
