Due to various historical events, the early 2000s were a turning point for America. The impeachment of President Clinton, the disputed election, the September 11th attack, and the ensuing war on terror pointedly shaped the US outlook and politics. This essay seeks to analyze the impact of these significant events on politics and civil liberties in indicating the delicate balance between security and liberty and the nation's responsibility to uphold freedom worldwide.
The impeachment of Bill Clinton in 1998, and the subsequent trial in the Senate, highlighted the expanding polarization of politics. This development was primarily due to the aggressive response to Clinton's more progressive stance on specific issues, particularly among conservative factions. The discussion of sexual misconduct generated further tension as it related to the Supreme Court confirmation of Clarence Thomas, adding to the heatedness of political atmosphere (Foner 1106). George W.
