Humanity is facing multiple threats including climate change, unprecedented emergencies, environmental degradation, and global warming. For instance, there have been increased scenarios of pollution, land degradation, extreme weather, rising sea level, high temperatures, and food insecurity (National Intelligence Council 2021, 31). The most significant thing that governments, organizations, and individuals should pay more attention to is emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, COVID-19 has led to the death of more people in the United States of America (USA) than Iraq, Afghanistan, Gulf, Persian, and Vietnam wars combined (Jentleson 2020, 8). Moreover, it led to adverse economic, social, and political consequences.
The majority of people in different countries faced the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including losing their loved ones and jobs. The only way to ensure that individuals are protected from such catastrophic disasters is through preparation, planning, prevention, and fast response. The world of today is facing immense challenges, particularly to sustainable living and development (United Nations 2015, 5).
