Art Work Analysis – Battle of the Bewilderbeast Paper

Essay Instructions:

In this Discussion, students will critique a popular culture art work with a Viking theme, such as:
Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Official Trailer https://youtu(dot)be/ssrNcwxALS4
"It has a great beat and you can dance to it!"
Uh, not that kind of crit. The task at hand is to evaluate the artist's use of the Viking primary sources - visual, material and written - that you've been studying all semester.
1. Pick your media, a piece of non-scholarly art in any medium. The YouTube clip is only an example. You could pick comics, or cartoons, or a fantasy story. Hint: Pick a short work or an excerpt from a larger work to critique. Don't try to analyze a whole season of Vikings, probably not even a whole episode.
--> Step one: Start a thread by posting your choice. Make clear what work you are critiquing. Give a link; give a time stamp for a longer video ("the scene runs from 15:30 to 17:24"); upload a scan, whatever you can do to show the work you're critiquing.
2. Decide what swipe (aka sources) the artist used. Were there any other sources that could have or should have been used? Make clear (cite!) the sources you are writing about.
3. Critique the work on its use of the sources. What grade would you give the artist based on their uses of Viking primary sources?
--> Post your critique.
Some points to consider:
When discussing a historical character (such as Ragnar, Ivar, Floki in the Vikings tv series) consider how well the character in the art matches the character in the source(s). Discuss such points as anachronism. Is the time frame right? Did those people really live at the same time? Do the props and costume fit the period? Does that look like a ninth-century sword? Did Viking ships use that kind of sail? Does the character in the show match the person in the sources or did the artist just use the name? How did the artists fill in the blanks in the sources?
You can do the same for a legendary or mythical character. Lagertha is only a name in a single source, but a major character in the series. The work may include Other beings (gods, dwarves, elves, etc.) how did the artist interpret and then build on the sources?
4. Your critique (grade) for the Discussion will be based on how well you apply your knowledge of the sources.
Discussion closes end-of-day December 14.

Art Work Analysis – How to Train your Dragon 2: Battle of the Bewilderbeast
The Viking culture has been one of the most popular themes in recent media. Due to their ‘adventurous’ nature, weapons, and their way of living, people have been fascinated with how they have lived and thrived during their era. Accordingly, one of the popular representations of this culture could be found in the movie How to Train your Dragon 2. Specifically, a representation of how they go to war and fight against one another could be found during the Battle of the Bewilderbeast, which is the one that I am about to critique for this post.
The first thing that should be addressed is the fact that there seems to be no source nor attribution used to depict the Viking history for the film. There were no mention of any historical figures and som...
