The period amid the 17th century and the 21st century was a pivotal moment in the world’s history. It is the era when the present world evolved from the ad hoc culture and community structures to what is commonly termed as modernization. Henceforth, scholars have named it the birth of the modern world. Over the course of this era, several changes in the human society turn out to be autocatalytic. Scientists define a catalyst as an agent that precipitates a change. Historians adopted this concept from science, and it refers to a situation whereby a particular change accelerates other kinds of changes in society. Some of the autocatalytic changes that influenced the growing of the modern world include technology, colonialism, immigration and the ongoing revolutions. These autocatalytic changes made global changes self-perpetuating and ever-accelerating.
