Intellectuals and Renaissance Civilization
Major events took place during the civilization period in different continents. The invention of education brought great impact into the lives of people. How people do things and how the society runs and later the process had drastic results and changes. Renaissance is the bridging period between the old time and modern history (Fordham University, 1996). It began in the Italian cities and ended humanism. The question most people ask is how the intellectuals of old days contributed to the development of this history. In this paper, the contributions of scholars of those days are under review to find out how they contributed to the building of history.
Civilization came from migrations of people of different abilities from one continent to another. From grammarians, lecturers, astronomers academics and other philosophers who had moved to impart knowledge (Craig Et al, 2006). Their role being the making experience known all over, they had to teach the language and other texts. This would lead to the enlightenment of the people in that time and place they settled. An example was to construct the college of Rome where education had started.
The rediscovery of more fields of research that were brought by some great philosophers like Aristotle and Plato. They led to the discovery of positions of humanity in this world. Having created that awareness, the people had to try and improve on self-image and do what was humanly acceptable. They taught values and virtues that people would adopt, adore to stay in peace. After all is learned and accepted, the practice of these were necessary as a way of showing the example to humanity. To demonstrate this, it would be wise to mention a few intellectuals and their contribution during the time.
Petrarch was a spiritual leader and a great intellectual. He had established strong foundations of teaching people some works of spirituality and purity of mind. To continue his legacy, he trained a disciple called Boccaccio to carry on with his works of ministry. Boccaccio wrote books that were translated and spread all over the world. Upon reading these books, they have been used to advance the teachings of those days (Craig Et al, 2006). One of the major abdications was equity in the society that had begun by the master. He said, “Human is to have compassion of the unhappy.” Though he had challenges to do this project, he had later managed to struggle and have manuscripts to ensure the knowledge circulated to the people. Some of the benefactors of his unrelenting zeal got scholarships to Italy to receive education in Rome.
