What the American Dream means
The American Dream to me means that I have control over my life. Therefore, despite my family background, religion and race, by working hard in school, I have an equal opportunity just like others to have my dream job, make all the money I desire, afford a home, enjoy top-notch healthcare and live the life I want without any hindrance as the government ensure I can achieve all these. Similarly, the dream means that I can utilize talent and creativity, such as in music, content production, acting among others, for self-expression within the confines of the constitution while creating a brand that becomes an income generating activity and helps in pursuing happiness, enjoyment of life and self-indulgence.
Comparison of my definition of the American Dream and James Adams of 1931
My description of the American Dream compares to that of James Adams in that every individual is entitled to a better life. The government gives all citizens equal chances to succeed in their lives. Therefore, by employing determination one can achieve what is meant to be theirs depending on one’s capability. Also, the two descriptions argue that the dream equalizes all people in that despite the social background, religion or race differences, all citizens can achieve success.
