Lesson Plan
Primarily, this course will examine the connection between literature and other works of art or other disciplines exhaustively. The focus will be on several works of literature, but the main goal will be to use the few examples and extend the study to the other areas. The expectation is that the students will be able to apply the knowledge gathered while using the few examples. In college, the ability for students to apply knowledge learned is indeed the most important thing that one can master. Repeating techniques or some lessons could be tedious, and hence it is often expected that in college students will only be provided with a small percentage and gather the rest for themselves. This lesson plan will mainly provide details regarding the students, list the goals and objectives of the course, provide examples of the texts that will be examined, provide a list of questions that will be used to help reinforce what will be taught, and provide ways that will be used to assess the students.
Class Description
The total number of students who take English 363 is 40. As expected their performances vary but extremes does exist, that is, there are some extraordinarily sharp students in the class and a few who will need extra tuition.
Whether English is a first or a second language is also an important consideration when teaching. Some lecturers often ignore this fact and end up experiencing problems with the semester almost winding up. Out of the 40 students, 25 use English as their first language, 5 use it as their second language while the remaining 10 have it as their third or fourth. This presents a challenge that only a few lecturers can comprehend and use it to make sure that all students are in line with what they are teaching. In some classes, students perform variedly and in most occasions, this spells trouble unlike what some people might think. All students should at least show instances of comprehension and be able to follow the every week lectures and handle the problems that are presented to them. By making sure that all students are in groups and that each group contains at least a student who does not consider English as their first or second language, the lecturer will be able to enhance interdependence among the students.
The groups will be required to work together and even complete assignments as a unit. After the end of every month, the group leaders will submit a report detailing the progress of each student. Every student is expected to take part in the group discussions, and during class, the session will be lively and interactive instead of the usual and at times ineffective lecture and silence. The main reason for the above is to make sure that the change that the lecturer seeks to effect becomes a reality.
Course Objectives
Students will be able to:
* Identify the elements that help in organizing different texts into the various categories of literature.
* Students should also be able to assess their knowledge and skills with regards to the different literature pieces.
* Develop an appreciation of how genre and essential elements...
