Understanding of Competition

Essay Instructions:

In a well-constructed, 200-400 word essay, discuss a single issue about your personal relationship with play using concepts explored in the texts assigned in the Course Reader and in the class lecture videos . Questions you might consider include, but are not limited to:
How do you view competition, and which view of competition discussed in class best matches your own?
How did the play that you engaged in as child act as practice for things you have done in your adult life and how does that compare to ideas of play as practice discussed in this class?
What role does play fill in your current life, and which view of play discussed in class best matches your own?
How does the play of your childhood, or of your current life, fit with Huizinge's idea of the The Magic Circle?
How does one of the the games you play reflect your personal values and beliefs? How are those beliefs and values specifically reflected in that game?
How has the way that you engage in play changed during the pandemic? How dod your adaptations compare to those described by Elizabeth Swensen and in the "Larping in Place" podcast episode?
Be specific. Describe specific aspects of play and games from your won life that help illustrate your point. Consider which aspects of the readings we've done so far in this class interested you or connected with you. Assume the person for whom you are writing is familiar with all of the class texts you are addressing. There is no need for summaries of them in your essay.
Tie your thoughts together into an essay with a clear thesis idea that expresses the central issue you are exploring. Be sure to proofread your work for spelling, grammar and clarity. We highly suggest reading your writing out loud, or enlisting a friend to read it out loud to you if possible.
The purpose for this essay is for you to dive into the process of writing and thinking critically about games and connecting your personal experience to the material you have read, watched and listened to for this class.

The basic principle between the two views is that winners enjoy the rewards associated with the competition regardless of the event or activity involved.
Growing up, I used to play a motorbike racing game where the first three positions were rewarded with trophies, applause, and cheering from the crowd. Apart from the rewards, a player automatically moved up to the next level, which provided more challenges and new exciting activities. Based on the play, I realized that competition is healthy for achieving better performance in what they do. Therefore, I have become very competitive in my adult life, which has proved to be both positive and negative. My competitiveness arises from the need to be the best, associated with the rewarding concept discussed in class under Koster's fun theory (Koster 1-27).
Plays continue to play a critical role in my current life, influencing most of my daily decisions. I often weigh which one offers more rewards and whether the outcomes will be positive or negative in every decision I face. Like in the play, every decision made has a significant impact on the player, and therefore, most of the decisions...
