Note on Blindness and Traveling While Black

Essay Instructions:

Write a two page (roughly 500 word) critical reflection on two VR projects from the Oculus quest story that you choose.
I strongly suggest "Notes on Blindness" and "Traveling While Black", which you are required to play, and are free, but you can optionally choose one other project to compare to one of them. (If you can't play, you can watch some videos about these VR games on Youtube)
Include two quotes from the assigned readings (1. pdf attached 2.https://medium(dot)com/@prettydarke/an-open-letter-to-oculus-founder-palmer-luckey-c3ac9486582d) with correct MLA citations, and include at least two questions of your own about these VR experiences.
Points to address in your reflection include:
- Mechanics: What is the goal? What are the rules? What moves can the player/viewer make?
- Aesthetics: What are the visual and audio aesthetics of the project and how do they tell the story?
- The social dimensions of the game (race, gender, ability, environment, etc.)
- Emotional goals, how does the project move you through different emotions? What emotions are they?
- Integration, how do the mechanics and aesthetics support or enhance the storytelling and emotional goals?

While Traveling While Black creates the scenario in which the player is included in every conversion between the people inside the shop named Ben’s Chili Bowl. Overall, both VR games create a different form of reality where people experience a life other than their own.
Social Dimension and Emotional Effects
Note on Blindness focuses on the disability where it promotes the life of blind people. It shares their daily lives and presents how they perceive the world despite not seeing it. While Traveling While Black focuses on racism which represents how the lives of African-Americans are during the 1930s to 1960s. It showed the abundance of discrimination towards people of color; evidence would be the travel boo...
