Jermaine Cole tackled social issues in his music on several occasions. The hip hop artist incarnated problems like mental health and racism in his career (Frances, 2016). Cole revealed the occurrence of the social aspects in his albums, in an attempt to communicate to the general public and rescue the victims of the said circumstances. Since the hip hop genre of music attracts many people, the artist knew that the information would get to the target population through the fans. Jermaine Cole made endless efforts to address social affairs by conveying the message in his songs.
In 2016, the singer realized that some individuals, like women, immigrants, and people of a different color, were vulnerable to harassment in America. Cole reveals that the level of racism against the African-American community has escalated to extreme levels (Frances, 2016). The white Americans looked down against the black individuals openly. Consequently, the action is morally wrong and upright, and people should try to solve the issue. Immigrants went through a lot of trauma and pain. In most cases, the foreigners got assaulted at workplaces and in social functions. For instance, a qualified immigrant may fail to get a promotion regardless of their capacity due to consideration of social aspects. According to Cole, such issues should not happen because all individuals have the right to equal and fair treatment, holding all social factors constant. The occurrence of the social problems increased crime and break down in morals. This incident resulted in the creation of attention for responsible individuals like Jermaine. Although most black Americans have adapted to harassment based on skin color, the artist believes the issue is wrong, and it should get addressed immediately.
Cole took the time to compose his fourth album that highlighted the oppression of a black man. The individual lived in a ghetto, whereby he went through painful traumas due to color differences. Racism is an anti-moral action though most people in the United States implement its practice. The artist came up with lyrics of the song 4 Your Eyes Only in an attempt to rescue blacks from the captivity of intimidation (Frances, 2016). The album hit and won the billboard of the first two hundred songs to run well in 2016. Cole mixed his emotions to sing about the death of a friend in his lyrics. Jermaine gives his account in the verses whereby he had was accused of drug dealing due to this race. Judging people due to their race is unethical and should be brushed off the minds of most communities. Once again, the singer addresses the issues experienced by blacks in the nation, especially when it comes to earning a living. The society faced a lot of challenges with the racists during their efforts to achieve success and laid objectives. In some cases, the weak souls feel extremely humiliated and consider giving up as an option. Cole ends the song by discouraging the action and urging racists to drop the social issue.
