Crafting Exquisite Jewelry Founded by Lakhani and Deepa Gurnani I interned at Deepa Gurnani whose main undertaking is crafting exquisite jewelry. The company was founded by a couple called Lakhani and Deepa Gurnani and is located in Manhattan but its products is sold in several stores countrywide. One of the company’s fundamental endeavors is keeping alive the art of traditional hand embroidery. All their jewelry is made by hand in India using unique techniques that have been passed down many generations. On the flip side, they have adopted new techniques and innovations intending to improve artisan skills.
I joined the company in the capacity of a social media specialist intern and some of my obligations included creating more awareness about the company on social media. I was also charged with the responsibility of brainstorming campaigns and creating board moods for social media. Here, it was incumbent upon me to come up with unique campaign strategies that would ultimately boost sales. I had to use illustrations on social media that would be appealing to potential consumers. This involved creating a library of sorts that would give more insight into the jewelry on all social media platforms. Another role that was delegated to me was to identify and collaborate with several Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). This responsibility involved liaising with high-profile people with a profound interest in fashion and design to popularize the products of the company. This was quite relevant because I was also charged with the responsibility of marketing and enhancing revenue. Another one of my functions was managing the showroom which required me to ensure that all the jewelry was appropriately displayed. I had to also ensure that the ornaments were systematically arranged to facilitate easy retrieval.
Upon joining the company I was well received and accorded all the help I needed to acclimatize to the new environment and responsibilities. Being allocated novel responsibilities especially those in public relations was quite welcome because they accorded me the opportunity to explore more and have thrilling experiences. The managers and colleagues were supportive to a fault. I was given all the space I needed to learn and research without any constraints or hindrances. I was also accorded the wonderful opportunity to work alongside people from a different country for the first time. They were genteel and amiable people who readily introduced me to their amazing culture. I had a great time during the internship and the learning experience was profound. In nutshell, my internship was a defining moment as I was able to explore new horizons. It presented me with the opportunity to learn new business concepts not forgetting an entirely new culture.
Effects of Physical Space/Environment on Work
I have a liberal mind and as such, I believe in being allowed as much free space as possible in the execution of my engagements. I concur with the sentiments that organizations on the creative edge should prioritize establishing rich and diverse environments (Füzi et al. 1).
