Introduction
Hydrocarbons gas leaks usually establish a probable hazardous circumstance with massive accidents representing worse case situations. Small gas leaks are also undesirable as they depict the risk of escalation, which results in reduced production and even shutdown. Such small leaks also signify a substantial amount of gas which is harmful to the atmosphere. Natural gas companies regularly invest significant resources into mitigating gas leaks. There are numerous reports, procedures, suggestions, and information on how to minimize the leaks regarding hydrocarbon leaks. According to (Christina P.2), there is not enough evidence in the available data. Therefore, operators in the natural gas industry need to choose reliable and the most meaningful information to ensure a safe operation.
The detection of gas leaks is usually classified based on combustible and toxic gases. Hydrocarbon gases are combustible, and, in this case, it is imperative to detect these leaks and make the environment aware of leakages. The most used gas detection methods will often raise the alarm when sensing a significant amount of gas to notify that the region might be explosive. Nonetheless, several elusive emissions will not attain a leakage rate that will instantly activate gas detectors. For that reason, it is necessary to employ effective gas detection techniques that can detect even the most minor sources of leaks.
