Proper nutrition plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Nutrients provide the human body with energy as well as elements vital in growth, repair, and the regulation of body processes. They include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, water and fats. Regular physical activity and healthy eating patterns help people sustain healthy weight, uphold health and minimize the risk to chronic disease.
Unhealthy eating habits has been a global health threat. In the United States, for example, over 33.8% of adults and nearly 17% of children and teens are obese. Similarly, poor diets intakes have contributed to the rising cases of heart diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and osteoporosis, to mention a few (Rehkamp et al, 8).
