New York inspired the construction of the city in the film Metropolis. How do you (or do you think a New Yorker would) relate to the movie today, given what New York has gone through.
Metropolis is a German Sci-Fi drama movie written by Thea Von Harbou and directed by Fritz Lang in 1927. The film is set in a futuristic scene that foreshadows how major cities operate in the year 2030 and beyond. The inspiration to produce this film came from a trip that Lang visited New York City in 1924 and got astonished by the sight of skyscrapers (Ebert). Lang then produced Metropolis with an eye of foreshadows. By watching the film in 2020 and comparing it with the present-day New York City, a New Yorker entirely relates it.
Cities evolve with time as a technological advancement that comes with economic improvements. New York has changed since the 1920s.
