American Indian Cultural Images Student: Institution: Introduction The red Indians are the native inhabitants of the United State of America even before its discovery by Christopher Columbus. It was he, who after landing thought that he had landed in East Indies and therefore called the native Americans Indians. The native Americans lived in the US plains practicing traditional agriculture, hunting and gathering through traditional methods and aquaculture as a source of livelihood. According to the movie “Indian” the native Americans express a sense of misrepresentation by the Hollywood movies that have been produced before, by depicting them as primitive and backward by showing them as having a great connection with their culture such as wearing on feathers as part of their beauty, and use of horses for transportation and other daily. With their way of life, they are marginalized and live in one of the most primitive areas in the world and highly marginalized. The Hollywood movies produced about the natives, show them as fierce, brave and fearless, this is done by a warrior who bravely stands still against a tree as he is shot at with arrows by fellow warriors. With the civilization of the US, most natives were left with no choice but move further north near the Arctic, the region though is not as civilized as the rest of the country and the place they inhabit is also known for the legend of the crazy horse. A legend of a man who had the ability to teach horses how to perform stunts in an incredible way. Crazy horse is believed to be a spiritual figure with extraordinary capabilities. Despite the will to keep their own land to themselves, the upcoming of the US had to place them in their own position. This led to fights between the natives and the United States carvery, leaving most Indians dead and wounded. This led to a drastic decrease in their population as many were left incapacitated. Their love for horses is still evident as till now, in the movie, Tim spotted Horse says that “losing a horse is like losing a mom or a family member”. This explains how close the natives are to horses and are even emotional when a horse dies. Due to the native’s influence on other people, they became famous for not only their culture but also their looks and appearances made them Hollywood stars. The narrator talks about challenges the natives faced as they were being encroached and the methods used to fight back the encroachers. We see their culture deeply rooted in them in a special way as boys go through initiation rites from boyhood to adulthoods, by playing different games and competing against each other. The effect of Hollywood films on Indians grew with the growth of their popularity. This was brought about by their interactions with the world around them as well as the movies they produced about their own culture with the help of Hollywood, which were used in defining them. The history of Reel Injun was brought to life by the in cinematic documentation of their life as most expressed by reserved interviews with different people who understand either through learning life interactions with the culture.
