Question 1: “Organic Architecture”
Frank Lloyd Wright was an architect who loved his work and embraced the uniqueness from the predecessors’ works. He pioneered the domestic architecture which encompassed the Prairie style that was inspired by the broad, flat landscape of the America’s Midwest. This architectural style was called “the American Century” since it was free from manacles of the European styles and was well suited to the modern American way of life. His designs were based on simplicity with uniqueness in space vocabulary, form and pattern that had dramatic horizontal lines and masses. Thus, this kind of design Frank Lloyd called "Organic Architecture" since it suited its environment and was a product of the place, purpose and time. This was a unique feature compared to a design that was used by his predecessors. Henceforth, his architectural works that were constructed in the era where material and technology contributed towards attitude towards the structure. He emphasized on horizontals plan. His house designs were based on a crucifix, L or T shape where he integrated bricks, wood, and plaster in the designs. He developed these houses around the basic crucifix, L or T shape and utilized a basic unit system of organization. He integrated simple materials such as brick, wood, and plaster into the designs. Elsewhere, both Frank Lloyd’s organic architecture and those of his predecessors such as Richardson’s work share backdrop of English and American arts and craft movements.
