The U.S. has extensively been involved in economic, cultural, and military engagements with other countries, and most analysts have attempted to examine if its activities are imperialistic. Critics argue that the U.S. has been increasingly fascinated with expansionist and imperialist policies in different parts of the world. For instance, since the 18th century, American involvement in the Philippine-American and Spanish-American Wars (1898-1902) proved a new beginning in its foreign interventions. Since then, the U.S. has increasingly taken part in global politics, especially in Latin America and the Middle East. After the Civil War, America started to expand its interests across the globe. This included direct intervention in countries such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines, as well as engagements in economic, cultural, and military activities with other nations. Just as America expanded its global reach, so did immigrants increase in size, thus leading to numerous questions pertaining to the identity of American people. Nevertheless, America's actions in foreign countries cannot be described as imperialistic since the main aim is to protect its interests.
